After having written my dissertation on secondary reuse ( resuing objects in their orignial form for a different purpose) I am always on the look out for new example of secondary reuse and here are two instances which made me smile……

Mr Fredrickson from the Pixar film ‘UP’, reusing tennis balls for the bottom of his walking stick.

Lady GaGa in her new video ‘Telephone’ reusing drink cans as rollers……brilliant idea!

I loved this Stella McCartney window display at Liberty. The display spanned across 4 windows spelling out ‘we love Stella McCartney’, using different props- but this first window was by far my favourite!

Im back at Nicole Farhi!

After helping install the christmas windows at Nicole Farhi……I was asked back to help de-install them! and 3 weeks on im still at Nicole Farhi helping out the visual merchandising team and learning a great deal from them!

Here is the christmas window installed in Nicole Farhi’s flagship store in New Bond street.

At the moment I am doing work experience with Nicole Farhi, helping out the visual merchandising team. I couldn’t have really joined at a better time, as at the moment we are installing the christmas window displays! Although I have studied graphic design, I have always wanted to try out window dressing and I think its suits the style of my work,- as much of the work I do it 3D. My dream would be to design windows for the likes of Selfridges and Harvey Nics, who do such amazing and elaborate displays, that they are just attractions in themselves.

Below is a Nicole Farhi window display and I just LOVE this dress (which I only just found out my dad made!- he is a pattern cutter for Nicole Farhi), which is a one off, made from an old union jack flag.

Since graduating I have completed two work experience placements – one at ‘I am’ associates and another at Love it! magazine. At the moment I am getting together my portfolio which I then plan to send out to companies in the hope of a job!! So I hope to put some new projects up here very soon!

In the mean time here is a nice photo of class 09′ CSM! (Im sitting at the front in the blue and white stripy top, on the left!, my sister on the right!).

Dial M for Murder

For this brief we had to create an alternative book format on a given subject, of which mine was murder. ‘Dial M for Murder’ is about the 28 teenagers murdered in London 2008. The book provides an interactive reading experience, where the reader must pour ‘blood’ over the right hand pages to reveal part of the story – the part of how each person was brutally murdered. To create the right hand pages, stencils were cut and clear wax was applied over the top. This creates a waterproof resistance when the ‘blood’ is poured over the pages, revealing the writing.

I’ve included a couple of pictures of the making of my book as I always find it interesting to see the ‘making’ stage of peoples work! .

Context Redux

In march I was asked by Saint Martins to take part in the ‘Context Redux’ exhibition, showing a range of students dissertations (the ‘visual’ part to their disserations). Whilst most peoples dissertations took the form of a book, mine took the form of a ‘secondary reuse’ picnic blanket– made entirely from old cut up bed sheets (which had my disseration printed on) and bird food bags. Secondary reuse is where we take unwanted products still in their original form and use them to make new functional products from. For my dissertation I discussed whether secondary reuse is a viable sustainable design solution for us today in the western world.

Apart from exhibiting, I was also asked to give a talk to second years (who were about to start the dreaded task of writting their dissertations) about my experience on writing my dissertation.

Hero/heroine project.

Here is a fun photography project I did in my second year. We was asked to dress up as our hero/heroine and photograph ourself! I dressed up as the 1960′s model twiggy….I cant say she is my heroine, but I have always loved her look back in the day and I love her pose in this picture!………and also her red shoes!

I made the outfit myself and made the shoes by sticking white tape over a red pair of shoes I had!
